Richard St. Barbe Baker and the Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai and her “Green Belt Movement” inspired Felix (9). He finished his 4th grade class presentation in January 2007 with the words: “Let's plant million trees worldwide - a million in each country!” The student initiative Plant-for-the-Planet was born. Students in Germany will have planted one million trees until end of 2009.
When Felix shared his vision at the UNEP Tunza Children Conference in Stavanger, Norway in 2008 to support the UN Billion Tree Campaign, he was elected UNEP Junior Board member. His presentation at the UNEP Tunza Children Conference August 18th, 2009 in Daejeon, South Korea he ended with the words: “Everybody who is going to plant a million trees in their country come up on the stage.” After three minutes hundred of children out of 107 countries filled the stage.
With the Promise of Daejeon (video) we children started a worldwide network for climate justice.
September – November 2009: As a result of the Promise of Daejeon children from more than 56 countries will start a worldwide network for Climate Justice.
- pledge to plant a million trees in their country in the next three years and
- launch the common campaign “Stop talking. Start planting”.
